The national under-23 team left for Vientiane yesterday to take part in an international friendly match against Laos’ national under-23 team at the Laos National Stadium.
The delegation comprised 23 players and 10 officials led by team manager Pengiran Haji Mohd Waslimin bin Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin.
The team will be under the guidance of head coach Atsushi Hanita, who received his first big break having played significant roles within the national setup.
The Young Wasps are expected to partake in a training session before commencing their warm-up match at the 20,000-seater capacity stadium.
The trip will serve as their final preparations ahead of the upcoming Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-23 Football Championship, which is slated to be held from August 17 to 26 in Thailand. The group stage matches will be played at the Rayong Province Stadium while the knock-out matches will be contested at the Chonburi Stadium.
Brunei have been drawn in Group ‘A’ alongside hosts Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar.
Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan sent the team off at the Brunei International Airport yesterday.
Also present were General Secretary Mohammad Shanon bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Technical Director Paul Christopher Munster, executive committee members Haji Md Noor bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Ah Chua Bangau and Bujang bin Haji Japar. –
