MORE than 70 players turned up for the futsal squad selection for the upcoming Asean Football Federation Futsal Tournament at the Indoor Stadium Hassanal Bolkiah, Berakas last night.
The selection was coordinated by the National Football Association Brunei Darussalam.
Hj Hamidon Hj Mohd Zain, one of the organisers of the futsal squad selection, was glad to see many players turned out for the selection.
"There are many players coming for the selection tonight, the response is quite good," he said.
"This selection is held to give the opportunity to the public to participate in the selection and to search for a good players to prepare our national squad in the Asean Football Federation Futsal Tournament that will be held on the 17 to 24 April in Bangkok, Thailand," he said.
"The players that we are looking for in this selection must have certain criteria, such as their individual's skill, passes, ball control and the most important thing is the discipline and the ability to work with the rest of the team (teamwork).
"For the goalkeeper, we will be looking at the speed, reaction and the ability to read and anticipate the ball" he added.
According to Hj Hamidon ex-national players, Zaini Tumih, Azmanuddin Gillen, Md Ali Anapiyah Hj Md Noor and Hj Noorazmi Pehin Hj Abd Razak will be appointed as the coaches to help the country to prepare for the Asean Football Federation Futsal Tournament in April.
Among the players at the selection were the national players that grabbed the gold medal for the country in the Borneo Games at Samarinda, East Kalimantan, in Indonesia last December. The futsal squad selection will be held again tonight at 8pm at the Indoor Stadium, Berakas.
