AFF FUTSAL: Philippines Grab Lead in Group B

BANGKOK (19 Oct 2013) – The Philippines took the lead in Group B when they disposed of Brunei 5-3 in the last match of the evening as Vietnam edged Malaysia 2-1 in an earlier tie of the AFF Futsal Championship 2013.
It was as pulsating a match as could be between the Philippines and Brunei with both teams eager to win the points. And while it was Brunei who pushed hard earlier on, it was the Philippines who grabbed the lead through Arnie Pasanibo in the 13th minute.
The score at the end of the first half was 1-0 to the Philippines.
Pasilan Floriano was quick to double Philippines’s lead just a minute after the restart before Brunei got their scoring act together to score their first goal of the game in the 22nd minute through Maziri Maidin.
Then it was three quick goals for the Philippines with Pasilan nailing a double (26th and 36thminute) and another from Jovanie Simpron (36th minute.
Brunei staged a late revival through Mohamad Arif Haji Eisa in the 36th minute as Maziri then completed a brace with a second strike two minutes later.
“We created a lot of chances but it was just too bad that we could not score,” said Brunei coach Mohd Yunos Mohd Yusof.

A win for nat'l futsal team in Bangkok, finally

Tuesday, April 24, 2012
A REJUVENATED Brunei side at last have something to smile about at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship 2012. The national futsal team will leave Thailand with a win after edging Timor Leste 5-4 in their last Group B match at the Bangkok Thonburi Stadium yesterday.

With a day off on Sunday, Fachri Bangkul opened the scoring in the fourth minute for the Sultanate. But, the lead was shortlived as Manuel Pereira equalised for Timor Leste in the sixth minute. Brunei hit back immediately Mohd Faiz Hasnan answering with a goal in the seventh minute. But Pereira picked up his second of the night the following minute to make it 2-2.

Safwan Safri restored Brunei's lead in the 10th minute and Faizul Azmi scored two in two minutes (in the 16th and 17th minutes) to give the Sultanate a comfortable 5-2 cushion.

Brunei suffered a late scare as Pereira picked up his hat-trick in the 23rd minute and scored his fourth in the 26th.

The result puts Brunei third in the group behind leaders Thailand and Indonesia.

The Sultanate started their campaign with an 8-6 defeat to Laos on Thursday. Then came the stunning 22-0 loss to hosts Thailand on Friday and a 9-2 defeat to reigning champions Indonesia on Saturday.

AFF Futsal - Laos 8-6 Brunei

In the meantime, Laos hung on to secure their first three points in Group B when they edged Brunei 8-6 in the other tie.

The Laotian began the game on the right note when Kita Souksabai opened the scoring in the very first minute of play. They then raced to a 3-0 lead inside of the first ten minutes of the game with goals off Nidnilanh Chanchaleune (8th minute) and Khounsombath Phommaxay (9th).

But Brunei fought back with their first goal of the game through Maziri Maidin in the 12th minute to put the pressure on Laos. The score at the end of the first half was 3-1 to the advantage of Laos.

However, all that disappeared just two minutes into the restart when Anaqi Sufi Baki slammed two goals in a two-minute blitz (21st and 22nd minute) to put the score at 3-3.

The game grew more intense soon after when Junaidi Jumat gave Brunei the lead for the first time in the match on 28 minute where barely a minute later, Laos converted a penalty off Tona Bounmalay to put both teams back on level terms.

Laos then upped the tempo to score four more goals through Kita Souksabai (31st and 37th minute) and Tona Bounmalay (33 and 35th minute) as Brunei’s late surge off Norazizam Roslan (34th minute) and Maziri Maidin (39th minute) came a tad too late.

Nat'l Futsal League planned

FFBD also looking at U-10, U-12 leagues

A NATIONAL Futsal League (NFL) will be one of three new leagues the Football Federation of Brunei Darussalam (FFBD) intends to kick off this year.

Football's authority in the country is not taking its "newly-acquired" position lightly and to prove the point Sheikh Nordin Sheikh Mohamad yesterday explained the federation's plans for 2011 to The Brunei Times.

"In addition to the Brunei Premier League, it's time we set up an NFL. Various futsal tournaments have been organised in Brunei so it's time we have a proper league," said the FFBD secretary-general during the interview.

The FFBD's plan to set up the league is not new. Originally scheduled for late last year, the federation was forced to postpone it due to the uncertainty regarding its status as the nation's official governing body of football.

However, with the uncertainty now removed, the federation can proceed with its plan which is still in the preliminary stage.

"It's still in the early stage but the initial paperwork has already been done. We also need to secure a sponsor," said Sheikh Nordin.

"We have already asked our people to enquire about the availability of the Multipurpose Hall or the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas," he added.

Besides the venue, the FFBD has also sorted a timeframe for when the league will commence.

"It will be a three-month league and we are planning to hold it during the wet season of November or December, at the end of the year when most of the pitches are wet. It will work out if we start the Brunei Premier League (BPL) in March because then the BPL should be over before puasa (Ramadan).

"So after Hari Raya, we can start concentrating on the futsal league," said Sheikh Nordin.

Though the NFL is scheduled to take place in the BPL off-season, Sheikh Nordin wants the league to be considered as a separate entity and, thus, players are not allowed to play in both leagues.

"In my personal view, which is also shared by the other committee members, those who play in the NFL cannot play in the BPL. This is the only way to increase the number of players in the country and exposure, so we become more specialised. Of course, this is still subject to the participating teams," he said.

"In terms of logistic, say the futsal league was to clash with the BPL, then which one should take priority? By having this rule in place, then you don't have to worry about such a problem," added the FFBD secretary-general.

Since the finer details have not been outlined, Sheikh Nordin also said it was too early to put an estimate to the number of teams that would participate in the inaugural league.

"As for now I cannot confirm the number of teams to contest in the league yet. There has to be a selection process because there are a lot of futsal teams in the country. We already have a committee that will do this," said Sheikh Nordin.

The NFL is only the tip of the iceberg. The FFBD is also setting its sights on further expanding its development of grassroots football.

"It is important that we build up our grassroots football, to create interest among kids and improve their skills. We already have the Under-14 and U-16 national leagues and now we're starting to go into the U-10 and U-12 age groups. We want to start organising a proper league for them which will add to or complement their school tournaments in cooperation with the Department of Co-Curriculum Education (DCCE) of the Ministry of Education," said Sheikh Nordin.

"For example in South Korea, they already have a national league for the U-10 and U-12 age groups. This is something which we should aspire to follow. We have good relations with the DCCE so we should seize this opportunity as they have been very supportive, which is why we were able to use school venues for our age-group leagues," added the FFBD secretary-general.

If the proposed plans do bear fruit the FFBD will be looking at a very busy year, with the federation also set to host the U-14 National League, U-16 National League and the two tiers of the BPL.The Brunei Times ..

Brunei Futsal

KUALA LUMPUR: Brunei has been disqualified from the AFC Futsal Championship 2010 (ASEAN zone) qualifiers following FIFA’s continued suspension of the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (BAFA).

BAFA was suspended by world football governing body FIFA in September 2009 because of government interference in the affairs of the AFC Member Association.

Brunei’s disqualification will see only three teams battle it out in Group A of the qualification - Australia, Indonesia and Myanmar.

Group B comprises Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines.

The qualifiers kick off on February 20 and all the matches will be played at the Tennis Indoor Stadium in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.

The top three teams from the ASEAN zone go through to the Finals, which will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in May this year.
