BRUNEI manager Hj Feisal Hj Eusoff (pic) has announced a surprise inclusion of 13 DPMM FC players in the Sultanate team for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup.
The announcement has come as a huge relief for the football fans in the Sultanate. However, the decision to include the players in the current squad just a few weeks before the tournament has raised a few eyebrows.
Speaking to The Brunei Times last night, the national team manager Hj Feisal Hj Eusoff said the management had approached the DPMM FC to help Brunei kick off their AFF Suzuki Cup qualifier in Yangon, Myanmar, on October 5.
DPMM FC hitman Shahrazen Hj Md Said, midfielder Rosmin Hj Khamis, defender Sairol Sahari, Hj Muhd Subhi Abdillah Hj Bakir and goalkeeper Wardun Yussof are among the names mentioned by the manager.
"We discussed this matter with the management from the DPMM FC recently and they are willing to release 13 players to train with us. This is very good news for us. It is a blessing," said the manager.
"We only have few weeks left before the tournament and we need to gather all the players to be in the team. The current squad, together with the players from the DPMM FC will train in the morning. The squad will continue their training in the afternoon, while players from DPMM FC will train with their club in the afternoon." Brunei are scheduled to play Indonesia on September 26. That will provide the manager with only few weeks to work with the squad and put the finishing touches to his preparations with the final squad only to be announced a day before the squad leaves for Myanmar.
"The management and the head coach Kwon Oh-son are looking forward to welcome the players to train with the national squad. We will be expecting them to train with us every morning starting this Monday."
"The National Football Association Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) plans to organise a friendly match against Indonesia on September 26. We look forward to work with these players and to see how the team will shape ahead of the tournament," he said.
"Once again, we would like to thank the DPMM FC management and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, for allowing the players to be in the national team," he added.
Hj Feisal has included three DPMM FC players, midfielders Mohd Hendra Azam Mohd Idris, Mohd Najib Hj Tarif and goalkeeper Md Fakhrul Zulhazmi Yussof in the squad last month to play in a series of friendly games in Malaysia from September 1 to 13.
Now that the 13 players have been added, the national team manager Hj Feisal and head coach Kwon Oh-son will need to give serious thought to the final selection of the much-changed squad. The Brunei Times
