Fatigue takes its toll on team

Tuesday, September 11, 2012
MANAGER Hj Feisal Hj Eusoff admitted Brunei team suffered a fatigue after his side were defeated 2-0 by Pos Malaysia FC in a friendly match at the University Putra Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The team are preparing for next month's ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup qualifiers in Myanmar.

"The team just got back from Kelantan yesterday. They have not recovered from the game and they did not have enough rest. We lost 2-0 today but it is mainly because the players have not recovered from the Kelantan game," said Hj Faisal

The manager believes his squad had shown a bit of mental and physical fatigue after they held the Malaysian Super League (MSL) champions Kelantan 1-1 at the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu on Saturday.

"We had a bit of mental and physical fatigue because we had not completely recovered, and that happens sometimes. We lacked a bit of accuracy in our passing and the players were unsettled in the game."

The fatigue also forced head coach Kwon Oh-soon to field second strings against the Malaysia Premier League side.

"We decided to let the reserves play in the first half of the game, but they look unsettled and it forced us to bring some of the first 11 players in the second half," said Hj Feisal.

"We brought in Mohd Hendra Azam Mohd Idris and captain Mohd Najib Hj Tarif in the second half, but they could not change the game as they are not yet recovered from the last Saturday's game.

"Md Azwan Ali Rahman, Muhammad Maududi Hilmi Kasmi, Muhd Nurikhwan Othman and Redzuan Hj Petara are still out with injury, but the positives are we have shown an exceptional spirit and desire in the game. We will play against the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) selected players on Wednesday (tomorrow). They held the Harimau Muda to a 1-1 draw recently," added the manager.

The AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers will see five teams compete for two spots in the Nov 24-Dec 22 tournament proper which will be co-hosted by Malaysia and Thailand.

The Sultanate face Cambodia on Oct 9, Laos on Oct 11 and Timor Leste on Oct 13.

All matches set to be played at the Youth Training Centre in Yangon.
