THE national Under-19 football team (Tabuan Under-19) are out contention for the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Championship after a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Vietnam in their Group G qualifier yesterday - with all the goals coming in the first half.
It was the third straight defeat for Brunei, who have yet to find the back of the net after having let in 13 goals at the tournament in Yangon, Myanmar.
Ho Minh Di opening the scoring in the second minute at the Youth Training Centre. The lead was doubled courtesy of Lam Thuan in the 25th minute and it was 3-0 in the 34th minute via Tran Duy Khanh.
Vietnam were four goals up two minutes later with captain Pham Trong Hoa getting his name on the scoresheet. It was 5-0 just before the halftime whistle with Ho notching his second of the game.
The team will close out their campaign in the five-country group against Hong Kong on Tuesday.
