The Brunei Darussalam national football team lost on penalties to the Brunei Super League (BSL) All Stars during a friendly match at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Monday night.
BSL star Adi Said scored the decisive spot-kick to earn his side a 4-2 win after the match ended goalless in regulation time.
In a game with chances few and far between, BSL midfielder Shafie Haji Effenddy was left unmarked in the near post but could not trouble Brunei substitute Muhammad Jefri Syafiq Ishak.
With injury time fast approaching, a burst of pace from national star Hakeme Yazid Said enabled him to charge past his marker Md Khairul Anwar Abdul Rahim but a cross to his teammate did not result in a finish.
The national football team have been scheduled to take part in the FIFA Series: Saudi Arabia ‘B’ in Taif alongside Bermuda, Guinea and Vanuatu.
The Wasps will commence their campaign against Bermuda on March 22 followed by Vanuatu on March 26. – Fadhil Yunus
