Kota Ranger take down Seri Bolkiah

Sunday, December 25, 2011
KOTA RANGER eased past Seri Bolkiah 1 4-1 in their Group B match of the DST-National Football League 2011/2012 yesterday at the Berakas Sports Complex.

Kota Ranger had the best of starts with Yussof Bungsu finding the back of the net for his first goal of the night early in the fourth minute.

He was the first to react and managed to slot it home after Seri Bolkiah 1 goalkeeper Ak Mohd Khiya'arul Adry Pg Mohd Yussof parried the first attempt.

Kota Ranger were in control using their speed advantage to outrun their opponents.

They created several chances but it was only in the 42nd minute that they doubled their lead.

A cross from the left was headed home by Yussof for his second goal of the match, leaving Ak Mohd Khiya'arul stranded in between the posts.

Kota Ranger continued their dominance for the early periods of the second half. Mohammad Ari Saizulfadhli Ariffin was creating havoc among the Seri Bolkiah 1 defence.

It paid off for him in the 55th minute after he outran his defender to shoot past Ak Mohd Khiya'arul for a 3-0 advantage.

But it was a moment of magic by Seria Bolkiah 1 when Mohd Azree Abd Latif unleashed a shot from almost the middle of the field that caught everyone off guard in the 59th minute.

It was the goal that ignited the team and the crowd who started to get behind them as they pushed forward in search for more goals.

The revival was, however, short lived after a foul was called just outside the penalty box minutes later.

Amdillah Zainuddin made no mistake and guided the ball above the wall that saw them extend their cushion to 4-1 in the 66th minute.

But that was as good as it got as the intensity of the match died down when Kota Ranger went on the defensive to protect their lead to take the win.

"The performance by the team tonight (Saturday night) was very good, from the defenders to the strikers," said Metussin Hj Hamid, an official of Kota Ranger, in an interview with The Brunei Times after the win.

"Most of the players are young and I feel happy with them. They showed good self belief but we will still need to improve further for the upcoming games," he added.

"We would also like to thank the opponents for giving us a good fight making it a good match," he continued.

The competition continues with two more matches today.

Indera SC will go up against MS PDB (Royal Brunei Police Force's Sports Council ) at the Balapan Track and Field.

Over at the Berakas sports Complex, Tunas FC will see action against BSRC (Brunei Shell Recreation Club).

Both matches will kick off at 4pm.The Brunei Times
