TABUAN Muda (the national under-23 football team) are looking to bounce back against Laos in Group B of the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games today at the Bishan Stadium.
Brunei were on par with Vietnam in the first half of the opener to trail only by one goal before conceding five in the second half to lose 6-0 on Friday.
Ng assures that the boys have moved on and that they are looking forward to the upcoming match.
“I think we have shown that we can do it over the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately we lost it a bit and the concentration went in the last 25 minutes,” said Ng after a training session at the Nanyang Polytechnic yesterday.
“They thought they could get forward a little bit more but instead got punished. They need to stay disciplined throughout the game.
“They are still in confident mood now. It was a game of two halves (against Vietnam) as we didn’t do well in second half,” he added.
“This is a chance for us to put things right. We are trying to get the team to be more focus and see if we can do it for 90 minutes. I still have confidence they can put up a good show,” continued the Singaporean.
When asked on which area requires improvement, Ng replied: “One thing we have to learn is how to cope with the intensity of game. A lot of them are not used to playing in this high intensity for 90 minutes.
“We will need them to concentrate better and have more desire. This is the only chance that we have,” he added.
Brunei failed to put a shot on target against Vietnam with their best chance coming two minutes before halftime.
Azwan Ali Rahman provided a free-kick from 20 yards out into the box – but Md Hanif Hamir put it wide.
Ng is hopeful that they can get on the scoresheet against Laos.
“Laos are not in the same class as Vietnam. Against Laos, we will work hard to create opening in the attacking third and hope to get a few shots in to score,” concluded Ng.
The two teams played out to a 2-2 draw back in 2011 while Laos won the last meeting edging the Sultanate 3-2 two years ago.
Kick off is at 8.30pm.
