Brunei Darussalam will be playing matches designated as a home team at the KLFA Stadium during the upcoming AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup (AMEC 2022) in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD).
FABD Media and Communications Standing Committee Chairman Bujang bin Haji Japar announced this during a press conference at the FABD Theatre Hall in Jalan Pusat Persidangan yesterday.
The KLFA Stadium was chosen as the home ground for Brunei Darussalam on the basis of complying with the standards set by the organisers AFF, which require AMEC matches to be played in Tier 1 stadiums.
This decision was also made considering that the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium is still in the process of upgrading and cannot be fully utilised.
Brunei Darussalam have been drawn in Group ‘A’ alongside powerhouses Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Cambodia.
The Wasps will open their group matches against Thailand on December 20 followed by the Philippines three days later and Indonesia on December 26, before concluding their campaign against Cambodia on December 29. The national team will depart for Kuala Lumpur on December 12 with 10 officials and 23 players.
Avid local football fans and enthusiasts are welcome to watch and support the team.
Admission tickets can be found at the KLFA Stadium, with further details to be announced later. Brunei Darussalam qualified to the group stage of the competition after defeating Timor Leste 6-3 in aggregate over two legs in the qualification round.
Also present were FABD General Secretary Mohd Shahnon bin Haji Mohd Salleh and Brunei Darussalam Team Manager Pengiran Haji Waslimin bin Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin.
