 by Fadhil Yunus

DPMM FC cruised to a 5-0 win in a friendly match against MS ABDB ahead of the much-anticipated new S League season at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday.
The elite Brunei-based outfit are reaching advanced stage of their preparations with the league opener set to resume on March 31 with Albirex Niigata (S) looking to add on to their ever-growing cabinet with another Community Shield.
MS ABDB, fresh from winning their third domestic title in the DST Super League, were hoping to provide a stern test but the 2015 S League winners were in buoyant mood.
The friendly allowed newly-appointed coach Rene Weber to experiment his starting line-up as well as have a better look on his players in a much more competitive environment.
The ‘Gegar Gegar’ men boast a relatively new set of players with a number of DST Super League players joining the squad ahead of the new season.
The club still have two empty slots for foreign quota with 23 players already confirmed in the squad including new Iranian striker Mojtaba Esmaielzadeh, who was roped in from Iranjavan FC.

New DPMM FC coach calls for good football.

DPMM FC newly-appointed head coach Rene Weber has expressed his desire to assemble a team which plays good football and importantly register a victory ahead of the new season.
The Brunei-based outfit entered a new chapter at least in managerial terms as the Brazilian succeeds S-League title winning coach Steve Kean who served the club for four years.
DPMM FC are in the early stages of pre-season with the local players returning after a 40-day break while 12 foreign players are also currently on trial as they look to cement a spot in one of the four possible quotas.
Weber outlined his plans of how he would like his side perform in what could be a new-look side.
"I hope we can do a good season. My big task here is I want to play football and win. Sometimes you play beautiful football but don't win,"said Weber in an interview after a trainign session at the Jerudong Mini Stadium yesterday.
"Football is the best entertainment around the world.Everybody likes football so to bring the crowd to the stadium they must see good football," he further added.
"The main target is to play strong football and won the game. When you lose the ball, you must fight and with the ball, you play,"
He has also set a top-four target in the league adding that they will take it a game at a time.
With the players just returning froam a lengthy layoff,Weber is also cautious that players do not pick up any injury before the start of the season.
"We start step by step.I think after two weeks we can take some conditioning work and start to train more strongly, with more speed and power. Now we're just in the beginning and taking care of the injury.
"I don't want to lose players in the beginning.Around the worle we take care of this.
"The main point is I want DPMM to play very good football. This is our target," the former Brazil Under-20 national coach said.
Brunei is the fifth country outside Brazil in which Weber has stepped foot following experiences in Portugal,Peru, United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
"I played and work in Portugal as a player and coach. After that I was in Peru as the main coach and then worked in Dubai,UAE for four years,"said the former Vitoria de Guimaraes midfielder.
Weber was also part of the coaching staff in the Qatar national team that tried to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The former Sao Paulo assistant also emphasised the importance of exposing young players into the team to enhance their education in football.
"We have around seven or eight under-23 players. We bring them in to see how they play to prepare them for the future."
Weber is excited with the prospect of managing his new club and also has heard that they were crowned champions in 2015.
"It is a very strong challenge for me. You have strong competition here in South East Asia. I hope to prepare young players for the future," he said.

DPMM FC has also roped in Luciano Ilha, who formed a seven-year partnership with Weber, as the new fitness coach.
