Bandar Seri Begawan: Myanmar’s Yangon United FC cruised to an emphatic 6-1 win over Indera SC of Brunei in the 2020 AFC Cup Play-off 1st Leg at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Wednesday.
Than Paing and Ernest Barfo both scored braces for Yangon while Maung Maung Lwin and Aung Kyaw Naing contributed a goal each as the Myanmar club were hardly troubled by their Bruneian opponents.
The win for Tin Maung Tun's charges puts them in a comfortable position ahead of the return leg at home next Wednesday.
Yangon, who are making their eighth appearance in the AFC Cup, dominated the early proceedings before opening their account in the 11th minute through Than Paing’s strike.
The Yangon United youth academy graduate added his second five minutes later before Ghanaian midfielder Barfo put the Myanmar club 3-0 up in the 43rd minute.
Indera SC’s hopes of forcing their way back into the game in the second half was short-lived as the visitors stretched their lead with Barfo finding the net in the 52nd minute.
The AFC Cup debutants fell further behind through Maung Maung Lwin's goal in the 58th minute and Aung Kyaw Naing scored Yangon's sixth in the 71st minute.
Indera finally etched their name on the scoreboard with Brazilian Marcelo scoring a late consolation in the 76th minute.
