Shahrazen brace not enough for DPMM FC

Thursday, December 20, 2012
A BRACE by Shahrazen Said was not enough to save DPMM FC.

Brunei's only professional football team slipped to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Aceh United yesterday in the semi-finals of the Governor Aceh Trophy in Indonesia.

Mahdi Senegal opened the scoring and gave Aceh United the lead in the 13th minute.

Shahrazen cancelled out the opening goal after he netted from the spot in the 36th minute.

It remained 1-1 at the break and it was only in the 78th minute that the hosts got back infront through Defri Rizky.

While DPMM FC were in search of an equaliser, Ismed Sofyan killed off all chances by netting a third for Aceh United in the 90th minute.

Shahrazen found the back of the net once again in injury time but it proved too late for the Bruneian side as they remain winless after three matches.

It will be an all Indonesian-final after Semen Padang defeated 10-man Selangor 3-1 in the other semi-final last night.

Edwar Wilson gave the Indonesian Premier League (IPL) champions the lead in the 10th minute and doubled the advantage 14 minutes later.

Afiq Azmi was the only one who got on the scoresheet for Selangor as he pulled one in the 29th minute.

Hendra Bayauw scored another in the 85th minute to ensure that Semen Padang will lace up in the final.

DPMM FC still have a chance to finish on the podium as they take to the field against Selangor in the third-place play off on Saturday.

They started out their campaign last Saturday with a 4-2 loss to Semen Padang and drew 1-1 against Kelantan on Sunday.

It was only through a draw that DPMM FC made it to the last-four after they finished the group stages with the same points as Kelantan. The other team that competed in the six-team competition was Makassar United.
